2012 academic conference of the Chinese Society for Environmental Economics held

The 2012 academic conference of the Chinese Society for Environmental Economics was held on October 18-19, 2012 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. This annual event was co-organized by the Chinese Society for Environmental Economics under the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSEE), the Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning (CAEP), the Professional Association for China’s Environment (PACE), and the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and hosted by the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. More than 120 participants from universities, research institutes, industries, and relevant government departments attended the meeting. Mr. Ren Guanping, Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences spoke highly of the academic activities conducted/organized by the Chinese Society for Environmental Economics saying that the environmental economics is one of the most promising and dynamic disciplines in the field of environmental sciences. Also speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Shen Manhong, the Vice President of the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and Dr. Wang Jinnan, Vive president of CAEP and PACE chairman briefed the participants on the organization/preparation of the meeting and CSEE’s work in the previous year, respectively. The selection results for the excellent papers were read out and awards were given to their authors.

Four keynote speeches on 《Development of environmental economic policies and their implementation》, 《Accelerating the green transformation and being cautious against “middle-income trap”》, 《The economic analysis of co-control – from industries to regions》,《A strategic thinking on addressing the double pressures of environment and economy in China》, and 《Innovation of water environment policy and emission reduction》were given by Mr. Lai Xiaodong, MEP, Dr. Ge Chazhong, CAEP, Prof. Mao Xianqiang, Beijing Normal University, Dr. Wang Hua, MEP’s Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy, and Prof. Shen Manhong, Vice President of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, respectively.

After the plenary, the meeting was conducted in two parallel sessions under the themes of “Practice and Innovation” and “Theories and Methods”, in which 19 papers were presented touching upon ecological capital value accounting, environmental taxation, selection of environmental regulatory tools, allocation of initial emission rights in non-power industries, oil pollution liability insurance, environmental credit, assessment model of China’s environmental economic policies, ecological compensation, application of CGE modeling, inter-regional coordination in environmental pollution control, dynamic industrial water performance, statistics on China’s environmental industries, etc. During the sessions, the interactive discussion between presenters and audiences were proceeding.
