 The 12th Board of Directors was inaugurated in May 2022 with the following members:

The following activities were conducted from May 2022 to July 2024.  
 
 
 
2022 Annual PACE International Conference 
Title: Theory and Policy of Green and Low-carbon Development in China 
Date & Time: August 18-19, 2022 
Venue: Zhejiang A&F University, Hangzhou, China 
Objective: 
• This important event brought together scholars, government officials, and corporate professionals to exchange perspectives on mechanisms and regulations for green and low-carbon development, macroeconomic management, and alternative environmental governance strategies. 
 
 
 
2023 Annual PACE International Conference 
Title: Theory and Policy of Green and Low-carbon Development in China 
Date & Time: August 16-17, 2023 
Venue: Zhejiang A&F University, Hangzhou, China 
Objective: 
• This important event brought together scholars, government officials, and corporate professionals to exchange perspectives on mechanisms and regulations for green and low-carbon development, macroeconomic management, and alternative environmental governance strategies. 
 
 
 
PACE 2023 Annual Conference 
Theme: China’s Environment & Development under Carbon Neutrality & De-globalization 
Dates: August 18th-19th, 2023 
Location: The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China 
Highlights: 
• Focused on China's environmental improvements and the shift towards addressing climate change. 
• Discussed China's targets for carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. 
• Addressed the impact of global issues like the COVID-19 pandemic on environmental policies and practices. 
 
 
 
Sixth International Students’ Ecology and Environment Forum 
Theme: Promoting Harmonious Coexistence Between Humans and Nature with Ecological Civilization   
Date & Time: December 2th-3th, 2023 
Venue: Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China 
Objective:  
• This forum aims to enhance academic exchanges among international and domestic students from universities all around the world, share academic achievements, strengthen the research and innovation capabilities of graduate students, and jointly provide solutions to the global environmental crisis. 
 
 
 
COP28 and New Opportunities 
Date: December 23rd, 2023 
Location: Shenzhen Research Institute, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China 
Supporters and Sponsors: 
• Vanke Foundation, UN ESCAP, PACE, and various environmental organizations and companies. 
Objective: 
• Analyze the new global climate policies and opportunities emerging from COP28. 
• Discuss the implications for China, especially the Greater Bay Area, in terms of renewable energy, urban investment, and climate adaptation. 
Agenda: 
• Opening remarks by notable figures including university presidents and Nobel laureates. 
• Sessions on global climate change policies, carbon neutrality opportunities and challenges. 
• Parallel forums discussing business opportunities and challenges, and the role of think tanks and social organizations. 
 
 
 
International Workshop on Navigating the Nexus of Land Use Competition and Renewable Energy Development 
Date & Time: 2pm-5pm, June 7, 2024 
Venue: Hybrid format with on-site at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and online via Zoom. 
Organizers:

• Professional Association for China’s Environment (PACE) 
Objective: 
• Investigate the interplay between land use competition and renewable energy development across different countries. 
• Provide insights and recommendations for sustainable land management and renewable energy transitions. 
Agenda: 
• Presentations and discussions from representatives of Hong Kong, Australia, Vietnam, Japan, Mainland China, and Thailand. 
• Focused group discussions to clarify research questions, identify case studies, develop a comparative framework, and explore funding opportunities. 
 
 
 
2024 Annual PACE International Conference 
Title: Theories and Policies for China's Green and Low-Carbon Development 
Date: June 28-30, 2024 
Venue: Zhejiang A&F University, Hangzhou, China 
Objective: 
• Promote innovation in green and low-carbon policies and systems in China 
• Enhance the modernization of ecological environment governance systems and capabilities 
• Achieve comprehensive green and low-carbon transformation of China's economy and society 
Highlights: 
• The symposium aims to drive policy innovation for green and low-carbon practices in China. 
• Focuses on modernizing governance systems for the ecological environment. 
• Supports the holistic transition of China's economy and society towards green and low-carbon development. 
 
 
 
The 1st Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Environmental Technology Symposium 
Date & Time: July 6th-7th, 2024 
Venue: Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China 
Theme: Environmental issues specific to Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as 
common environmental issues faced by large cities.

• Through these exchanges, the event seeks to enhance international perspectives, promote academic advancement, and contribute wisdom and strength to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

1. Prof. Dan Guttman 
Title: Comparative Climate Change Adaptation Governance: Need and Opportunity for PACE Practitioners and Scholars

• This webinar focused on the urgency of climate change adaptation amidst increasing global climate impacts such as floods, fires, and droughts. Dan Guttman introduced a project comparing climate adaptation approaches of Australia, China, and the US, emphasizing the importance of governance and the opportunity for PACE members to engage in comparative adaptation learning.

• Dan Guttman is a teacher, lawyer, and public servant with extensive experience in environmental law, governance, and comparative programs.

Title: Co-control of Air Pollution and GHGs: China's Experience to the World

3. Dr. Jie Li 
Title: Considerations on China’s Role in Global Climate Governance

background in atmospheric sciences and public policy.

4. Dr. Jeremy Rifkin 
Title: The Age of Resilience: Reimagining Existence on a Rewilding Earth

• Jeremy Rifkin discussed the shift from the Age of Progress to the Age of Resilience, focusing on rethinking our relationship with time and space. He highlighted the need for a new approach to managing the Earth's resources and the role of government and the economy in this transformation.

• Jeremy Rifkin is a bestselling author and influential economic thinker known for his 
work on the Third Industrial Revolution and climate change.

5. Dr. Holly Honglin Li 
Title: Sustainable Finance: Reducing Risks and Capturing Opportunities

• Summary: 
• Holly Honglin Li provided an overview of sustainable finance, covering ESG and climate-related risks and opportunities. The session included discussions on international best practices for ESG risk management and government regulations 
promoting sustainable finance. 
• Speaker: 
• Holly Honglin Li is the Net Zero Finance Program Director at Ceres, with extensive 
experience in sustainable finance and climate change.

6. Prof. Chu Wei 
Title: Market Reform in China's Public Heating Sector 
Date and Time:

• Summary: 
• Dr. Chu Wei discussed the market-oriented pilot reform of China's public heating sector initiated in 2003. The study used a quasi-experimental approach to examine the reform's impact on the productivity of heating enterprises. The findings indicated significant improvements in total factor productivity, profitability, cost management, investment upgrades, and market structure optimization. This empirical evidence is 
relevant for future heating reforms in other developing countries. 
• Speaker: 
• Dr. Chu Wei is a Professor at Renmin University, specializing in energy and climate economics, productivity analysis, and applied econometrics. His research is widely published in international and Chinese journals. 
 
 
 
Other Activities 
 
 
 
In addition, PACE participated and contributed to various knowledge exchange, capacity building, and partnership events and activities. For example, making a presentation on climate change and business innovation at the 2023 Washington International Forum on Innovation and Cooperation- Low Carbon, Biotech, and Big Data & AI on November 8, 2023 and addressing at the opening of the 30th Anniversary of Chinese Association of science and technology in District of Columbia (CAST-DC) on December 3, 2023.
