Zhang Zhihong’s Bio
Mr. Zhihong Zhang is Senior Program Coordinator with the Climate Investment Funds Administrative Unit of the World Bank, overseeing the Clean Technology Fund ($5 billion) and the Program for Scaling up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries ($500 million). From 2004 to 2011, Mr. Zhang was Senior Climate Change Specialist and Coordinator for Climate Change Mitigation at the Global Environment Facility. In this capacity, he led the development and implementation of the GEF climate change focal area strategy and was responsible for program management, project review, and portfolio monitoring. He was also engaged extensively in the UN climate change negotiations on mitigation, finance, and technology transfer. Prior to joining the GEF, Mr. Zhang served as Chief Technical Advisor on behalf of the UN Industrial Development Organization to manage energy efficiency projects in China. In the early 1990s, Mr. Zhang worked in the energy sector at the World Bank on rural energy, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and power sector reforms. Mr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
